I Like Bigs Tents and I Cannot Lie | North Carolina Wedding Planner

It’s true. Tents are my jam. As we approach 2017 and wedding planning for next year is abuzz, here is some inspiration for your tented wedding. Pinterest away!!

north carolina wedding planner private property outdoor tented wedding tips

If you are planning to have your ceremony outdoors and don’t have a viable indoor back up plan, reserve a tent in advance in case of inclement weather. Also, it comes in handy to make sure all your design details will work well inside or out of a tent. I love this grand entrance we gave to Katherine and Nathan’s wedding tent – we created an outdoor church.

Hello gorgeous! Nothing will make your guests’ jaws drop like a beautiful Sperry pole tent. The signature high peaks and flags on these ionic sail cloth tents are my absolute favorite.

If you decide to go for a more traditional frame or structure tent, draping and chandeliers are the perfect accent to create a custom look.

You may be thinking that you just need a tent in case of rain, but I recommend them rain or shine especially in the summer. They give your guests a reprieve from the sun and heat. You can install fans to help create a breeze or even side walls and an air conditioning unit. Your guests will thank you!

Think about your floor plan. Plan out your focal points and high traffic areas like stage, dance floor, food stations, bars, and the like to ensure proper flow. Don’t forget to think about your entry and exit points and making them well defined.

One of my favorite ways to customize a tent design is to lay down flooring. The options are endless (hardwood, carpeting, patterns, oh my!) and your female guests will appreciate their heels not getting stuck in the grass.

If your venue comes with a tent, make sure to get a complete list of all the amenities and rentals that are included or available for upgrade. Think fans, lighting, dance floors, side walls, tables, chairs, and the list goes on. Knowing what items the venue can provide to you vs. what you will need to secure on your own will save you time and money down the road .

Nothing transforms a tent more than fabulous lighting. Chandeliers, twinkle lights, cafe lights, lanterns.. your options are endless. For this wedding, my wonderful bride, Katherine, wanted to dance under the stars but because of her large guest list and the unpredictable weather, that wasn’t feasible. Instead, I proposed a clear top tent with twinkle lights to create a starry effect. It was absolutely stunning and even more impactful in person.

If your wedding is completely off the grid (no main buildings around to support your needs), don’t forget about additional tents you may need. This could be everything from ceremony to cocktail hour to dinner to dancing to kitchen to restrooms to storage to marquees.

Sunflower Inspired Summerfield Farm Wedding {Rachel + Justin} | Greensboro NC Event Planner

When I sat down with Rachel and Justin to chat about inspiration possibilities, Rachel mentioned how much she loved sunflowers and I am pretty sure I stood up (in the middle of a bustling Maxie B’s) and did a jig. Sunflowers with the beautiful backdrop of Summerfield Farms in the summertime? Wedding perfection. More so, it was important to Rachel and Justin that their wedding be intimate, full of dancing, fun games, good food, and, of course, great memories. I’d say we knocked it out of the park! I hope you enjoy these beautiful images from Alexa’s Photography and make sure to check out this wedding feature on Every Last Detail here. Happy Monday!

We were in sunflower heaven thanks to Amy Lynne Originals.

Rachel and Justin opted to do what we call a “first touch.” They didn’t want to physically see each other before the ceremony so a quick hello, back to back, to calm the nerves was the perfect solution for them.

larson_206

When your ceremony spot is this picturesque, less is definitely more.

larson_233 larson_227 larson_236

I’m not going to lie, chuppahs are one of my favorite wedding elements. Not only do they leave room for SO many design possibilities but the symbolism and traditions behind them are, to me, what weddings are all about. Justin’s mother did an amazing job hand making their cheerful chuppah.

larson_306

After the ceremony, guests took a quick hayride to the barn for hors d’oeurves and drinks. FLG served delicious tray pased caprese salad bites and their famous deviled eggs as well as a food station of slow roasted pulled pork sliders with all the fixin’s.

Insert all the heart eyes for these two!

After cocktail hour, guests moved into an adjacent tent for a formal plated dinner. For the table designs, R+J gravitated towards simple yet colorful designs so we started with a clean palette of crisp white linens and mahogany chairs. ALO’s bright floral designs paired with our adorable menus and place cards were the perfect accent and really let the menu and conversation shine.

For dinner, guests first enjoyed a summer salad of mixed greens, fresh strawberries, candied pecans, mandarin oranges, fresh local chevre, and a champagne vinagrette.  Next, for the main course, guests were offered a menu choice of Kentucky bourbon chicken, marinated flank steak with a red wine reduction, salmon with a lemon butter caper sauce, or zucchini cakes with a lemon spinach cream sauce. The Southern sides paired with each entree were a mix of smoked gouda mac and cheese, mashed sweet potatoes, grilled garlic green beans, and corn bread.

larson_438

Hello gorgeous. When we started talking about sunflower designs, the first thing that came to my mind was a field full of sunflowers. I expressed my idea to Amy in the way of a escort wall turned selfie station and she created this masterpiece. It was one of my favorite design elements EVER and the guests had a blast using it for photos during the evening!

larson_443

When you can’t decide what cake flavor to have, choose them all!!! Continuing our feast, we worked with Maxie B’s to create this delightful cake bar. Guests could enjoy raspberry lady, Oreo, five flavor pound, lemon almond, caramel, Dreamsicle, or strawberry buttercream.

Pop Up Dinner with 1618 On Location at Summerfield Farms | Greensboro Event Planner

Anytime my dear friend, Nick, owner of 1618 Concepts, calls me about an event I immediately say “Count me in!” No matter the location or details, there is always a guarantee of interesting people, decadent food, and amazing wine. And this pop up dinner was no exception! 1618 partnered with Summerfield Farms and Robert Sinskey Vineyards for an exciting six course dinner showcasing the farm’s grass fed beef and the vineyard’s phenomenal wines.  A dinner that marvelous called for an equally stunning tablescape design. I enhanced the rustic touches of our barn setting (albeit it is no ordinary barn) by adding in mahogany farm tables, industrial metal chairs, bright natural arrangements, and chalkboard runners. Instead of pesky place cards, I lettered everyone’s names at the top of their place settings. Functional and fun! Dave Wilson of Tigermoth Creative was on hand to snap some details and candids for us — I hope you enjoy these sneak peeks as much as I loved designing this event!

The Barn at Summerfield Farm Wedding {Olivia + Scott} | Durham NC Wedding Planner

Olivia and Scott are one of those couples that you meet and instantly know that they are the perfect match for one another. They compliment each other so well and have such a great joy for their relationship. Planning with them both was SO much fun. We meticulously designed every detail to be a reflection of them, their venue, and Olivia’s killer style. And boy, were the details beautiful . But the feeling that I am left with when looking back on the day through Anna Paschal Photography’s lens is the amount of joy, happiness, and love these two have for one another.

15 1 2 3

I just love their sweet first look. And can we all take a moment to swoon over Olivia’s dress? The ruffles, the jeweled belt, the sweetheart neckline .. it is definitely why Hayley Paige is a forever favorite of mine.

6 7

The bridal party fashion tied together our preppy meets rustic feel. From the stripes in Olivia’s gown, to the navy jackets the guys sported, to the ruffled collars and bows on the bridesmaid dresses, to the loose and natural bouquets  .. it all tied together beautifully.

8 9 10 29

Scott left Olivia the sweetest surprise on her shoes .. a note that she did not notice until their first look.

11 12

Because Olivia and Scott had a private gathering before the ceremony with their close family and friends to sign their ketubah, the majority of the guest list was invited for pre-ceremony cocktails and mingling in the barn where cocktail hour would take place. After some mingling, guests were escorted onto large open air seated trailors and enjoyed a quick ride to the ceremony just up the hill. Once they arrived to the ceremony meadow, guests were greeted with a welcome table featuring wooden accordion fans to keep cool, yarmulkes, and a large calligraphed board that Olivia crafted. The statement piece for the entire ceremony was without a doubt the beautiful chuppah that Olivia’s father and brother constructed featuring a light and airy Swiss dot fabric sewn by Olivia’s mother.

19 21 20

The traditional Jewish ceremony was set in front of this iconic tree in the meadow at Summerfield Farms. It served for the perfect backdrop for the ceremony and also provided wonderful shade for the guests.

13 14 22

After the ceremony, guests were given a quick tractor ride through the breathtaking landscape at Summerfield Farms before being dropped off at the barn for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Guests enjoyed tray passed petite ham biscuits and pimento cheese biscuits alongside strawberry sangria and sparkling spiked lemonade. Both perfectly refreshing after a ceremony in the [expected] Southern humidity.

17 18

We could not have asked for more perfect light after the ceremony!

23 26 28

Dinner and dancing took place in an adjacent pole tent. I love working in a tent .. it gives the perfect crisp, clean backdrop to make any design come to life. For Olivia and Scott, I worked with The Farmer’s Wife to create an elegant meets rustic with a touch of preppy tablescape. Textured ivory linens, mint julep cups filled with blousey blooms, tall and bountiful arrangements in collected urns. Olivia hand crafted all of the wooden table numbers and water color place cards as well as calligraphed all the names and numbers.

34 40 38

After introductions and some dancing, guests were seated for a delectable dinner of local fare. To start, guests enjoyed an Asian pear salad of mixed greens with crumbled bleu cheese, candied pecans and balsamic vinaigrette followed by a main course of herb rubbed grilled chicken, marinated flank steak with gorgonzola cream, char grilled parmesan and herb crusted corn on the cob, and grilled garlic green beans.

39 35 30

Why have one cake when you can have three? Maxie B’s created these timeless cakes in strawberry buttercream, mocha, and raspberry lady. All divine and the perfect sweet treat to end the evening.

Pole Barn at Summerfield Farms Wedding {Kathryn + Shawn} | Greensboro NC Wedding Planner

I could not have asked for a sweeter and more fun couple to work with than Kathryn and Shawn. These two were such a blast to plan with and had such a strong vision for certain things yet were totally flexible and open minded with other plans. I love that!! Their day was a melting pot of styles — lets just say it was a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n roll — and definitely one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy these images from the fabulous Alexa Stutts just as much as I loved planning with K+S. Enjoy!
